Yes, You Can Overcome Any Challenge
by Ed Foreman

Occasionally, people will say to me, “Yeah, Ed, that positive thinking stuff is o.k. when you are feeling good, have a job, a reliable income and things are running smoothly with your friends and family…but what about when things get tough…you are low on money, lose your job or sales are down, or your husband or wife wants a divorce, or even worse, you, or a loved one, has a bad accident or becomes ill…or a close friend or family member dies, what about your positive thinking then? You mean to tell me you can maintain an upbeat attitude and be positive in these circumstances?”

No matter how difficult times are, or how challenging life becomes…YES, that’s the most important time for you to be positive. And you can be positive! A mind full of hurt, remorse, jealousy, hate or anger will not give you the answers to improve your situation.

If you go around complaining about how unfair life is and how unhappy or lonely or mistreated you are, people don’t like to be around you…you reinforce the loneliness you complain about.

If you tell people, “My husband left me”…or, “My wife left me”…they are going to start asking the question, “I wonder what’s wrong with him that caused his spouse to leave him…or if you complain long and loud enough, they’ll know why your spouse left you!

If you are dismissed from employment, for whatever reason, and you go around bad-mouthing your former employer…others aren’t going to get excited about hiring you. They don’t need complainers in their organization…and they certainly don’t want anyone going around saying bad things about them.

Negative comments about anything or anyone assure negative results. Positive, happy statements and cheerfulness brighten your outlook and improve your situation.

A poor attitude, a negative countenance makes difficult situations even worse…it’s like a thimble full of water in your brain, heated to a boil, then turning into steam that clouds your thinking about everything you do, when you are upset, angry, jealous, grieving, resentful and negative, your entire thinking process…about everything…is altered. You become your own roadblock, your own jailer that keeps you hemmed in…frustrated, full of pity, sorrow, anger, resentment and self-doubt.

If you were watching a terribly bad, gory, negative television program and you said to yourself, “Oh my, I shouldn’t be watching this; I’m going to be having terribly bad, negative thoughts as a result of this!” What do you do? If you said, “turn it off,” you got the second best answer. If you said, “change the channel,” you got the best answer.

If you turn it off, what do you think about? You think about what you were just watching! The mind is never blank! If it were, how would you know?

So, what do you do? You change the channel to something more positive, upbeat and constructive. You watch that awhile, and then you turn it off, leaving happier, more constructive, positive thoughts in your mind!

It is the same way with your mind…if you find yourself knotted up with anxious, unhappy, negative thoughts…you “change the channel” to something more constructive, happy and positive, thinking about what you want to happen, instead of what you don’t want to happen…by thinking about happy, positive experiences rather than unhappy experiences.

Yes, You Can Overcome Any Challenge…but you must do so first in your mind. Just try it for 30 days and notice the difference. You’ll be glad you did. Keep Smiling…and, Stay Happy, Healthy & TERRIFIC!
