Not surprisingly, then, in 1985 Ms. Douran made a bold decision to leave an idyllic life on a tiny South Pacific island and travel 13,000 miles to study photography at the famed Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. That decision helped introduce her to a myriad of new worlds and new faces, so much larger than the five by three mile island that had been home to her and the 2000 people who live there. After earning her college degree, Douran invested in an independent record label and contributed her talents to a number of film and video productions. Additionally, her photography has appeared on album covers, in commercial publications and in print. She has also produced 17 record albums and was a key member of an West Coast based art restoration company. Along the way, she became a lover of the California lifestyle and the piece of fertile soil she now calls home.
