Eleanor Clift, contributing editor of Newsweek, has been in the center of Washington's political arena from Carter to Clinton. She regularly reports on the White House, Congress and the diverse personalities who make up the Washington power structure. She also reports on the government's response to terrorism and on women in politics. Clift and her husband Tom Brazaitis, co-wrote the book, War Without Bloodshed: The Art of Politics and they are currently working on a new book titled Madam President, about the rise of women in politics and the prospects for women on the national ticket. Her new book, Founding Sisters and the 19th Amendment, tells the story of how women gained the vote. She recently launched the nationally syndicated "Clift Notes", daily radio reports in which she offers her observations and analyst of social, cultural and political issues.

	Her experience as White House correspondent and congressional and political correspondent has made Clift a regular panelist on the nationally syndicated talk show, "The McLaughlin Group," and appears on many national television shows, including ABC's "Nightline," "Good Morning America" and CNN's "Crossfire." Playing herself, Clift has appeared in several films, including "Independence Day," "Rising Sun", "Murder at 1600 Pennsylvania," and "Dave," as well as the CBS series, "Murphy Brown." Eleanor Clift is a contributing editor for Newsweek. She reports on the White House, Congress and the various personalities who make up the Washington power structure as she is a member of the magazine's political team. She covered numerous Presidential campaigns including Reagan and Clinton, reports on the government’s response to terrorism, and regularly writes on women in politics. She was also the magazine's congressional and political correspondent for six years. In June 1992, she was named Deputy Washington Bureau Chief. She is currently assigned to cover the emerging Democratic presidential field for the 2004 elections, and the jockeying over policy and politics in the newly Republican-controlled Congress. Clift is a regular panelist on the nationally syndicated show, The McLaughlin Group, and a political analyst for the Fox News Network. Playing herself, she has appeared in several films, including Independence Day, and Dave, as well as the CBS series, Murphy Brown. Clift and her husband, Tom Brazaitis, Washington columnist for The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer, have co-authored two books. Madam President: Shattering the Last Glass Ceiling (Scribner, 2000) is about the rise of women in politics and the prospects for a woman on the national ticket. Publisher's Weekly called it "a sharp insider's view of the quest to elect a female U.S. president...Melding the immediacy of a breaking news story with savvy investigative journalism." An updated edition of Madam President was published in paperback (Routledge Press) in 2003. War Without Bloodshed: The Art of Politics (Scribner, 1996) is available in paperback (Touchstone Books, 1997). The New York Times book review said "War Without Bloodshed unquestionably works as a road map through the byways of the Washington they don't teach in civics classes." Clift’s most recent work, Founding Sisters and the 19th Amendment, tells the story of how women gained the vote. Clift is currently under contract for a book on the history of the suffrage movement. Clift's latest book, Founding Sisters, (Rutledge Press, October 2003) tells the story of the long struggle for passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. The book meshes with the HBO movie Iron Jawed Angels, starring Hillary Swank and Anjelica Houston, debuts Feb. 15, 2004.
